INTELLIGENT TECHNOLOGY

Geoff's current role as CEO of 791 Technologies Limited may seem miles away from his acclaimed training and development work, but it marks a natural evolution and return to basics. His passion and involvement with information technologies spans several decades across both public and private sector applications. Although he started working with IT systems in the 1970's era of mainframes, he has been an early adopter and developer of PC and mobile applications for business, and has worked on projects that quite literally reach all four corners of the world and anyone with internet access. He has been a featured speaker and panel member at international conferences, and is best known and most noted in technology circles for his tenure as CEO of PostgreSQL, Inc. - supporting dozens of open source software initiatives across five continents.

Business Intelligence ("BI") is a phrase that Geoff's colleagues have heard since the early 1980's when he first began integrating customer information systems into Customer Relationship Management programs. They heard still more about "Business Intelligence Systems" later while Geoff and his teams were linking software for CRM, product lifecycle development, Supply Chain Management, Enterprise Resource Management, eCommerce, and more recently Information Technology Infrastructure Library applications.

Data & Data Management are at the center of all enterprise IT solutions, so most people weren't surprised when Geoff accepted a more involved role in PostgreSQL, Inc. in 2000. "I saw the need for a more commercial approach, and a the need to add some core capabilities like enterprise replication. Our team and the community achieved and continue to achieve great advancements in this core area of IT for business." Davidson noted at Ottawa's Business of Open Source Panel in January 2003.
